What is SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction)?
The most widely used technology to meet the 2010 EPA requirement is SCR. Selective Catalytic Reduction is the process used to remove NOx from the fuel gases just after the combustion process using DEF. DEFendal™ Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is injected into the exhaust stream which converts NOx to water vapor and harmless gases to be released from the tailpipe. DEFendal™ Diesel Exhaust Fluid works with the heat of the engine and chemical catalyst to convert NOx to nitrogen and oxygen to be released harmlessly into the air we breathe (pure nitrogen and water vapor).
SCR technology is the most cost-effective and fuel-efficient emission technology in existence. SCR technology is used in passenger cars in 2009 and Class 8 trucks in 2010. This technology has existed in Europe for several years and is now implemented in the United States. SCR also allows for trucks to run at a higher efficiency because this process occurs after the combustion.
